BILLY ELLIOT: The musical was a smash hit in London and  is one of the most highly anticipated shows of the upcoming theatre season. Billy Elliot began preview performances on October 1, 2008. With music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall and directed by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot the Musical opened at Broadway's Imperial Theatre (240 W 45th St) Thursday, November 13th. Update! Billy Elliot has been nominated for a record 15 Tony Awards!

Billy Elliot is directed by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot has played over 1,300 performances and recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary in London. Billy Elliot the Musical opened at London's Victoria Palace in May 2005 to unanimous critical acclaim. The Billy Elliott production went on to sweep London's nine awards for Best Musical, including the Olivier, Evening Standard and Critics' Circle Theatre Awards. In London, Billy Elliot has now been seen by over 1.5 million people and has grossed over £65 million. The Billy Elliot musical opened to equal acclaim at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney, Australia in December 2007. The two current productions have played to over 2.3 million people.

[New York; Monday, November 6, 2006] -- Universal Pictures, and Old Vic Productions announced today that they will be holding open auditions to find boys for the upcoming Broadway production of BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL.  They are looking for boys, ages ten through thirteen, to play the roles of Billy and Michael.

Now in its second smash year in London, after garnering an extraordinary nine 2005 Olivier Award Nominations—including a win for Best New Musical, BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL opened on Broadway in the Fall of 2008. Read the rest of the press release here
